Till a month back, people who were working with the leading companies today are under pressure and trauma of getting entry back into the industry of their choice. The percentage of people visiting neurologists and psychologists have increased after the economic meltdown.People now are seeking medical help because of high level of stress, due to job loss or the fear of losing it.
The uncertainty and confusion has led to sleepless nights, loss of appetite, depression et al. The anxiety around the current economic slowdown is impacting many people in the working age group of 25-50.
Ask some of the psychiatrists and they will tell you the story. Jitendra Nagpal of Vidyasagar Institute of Health and Neurosciences (VIMHANS) has seen cases related to job loss and depression increase three-fold in the last one month and now has 8-10 cases a week, mostly people from IT, ITeS, BFSI and brokerage firms.
Professionals are suddenly discovering the dark side of market economics, that sky-high joining salaries and huge income jump from job switches are now a thing of the past.Sadly, it’s not only the so-called ‘average performers’ but the ‘best’ who are facing the music too.
The situation is not easy with those still holding on to their jobs as they fear losing it anytime soon. Employeees mainly in the financial services professional have been seeing their peers in other divisions losing their jobs and fears, it may be their turn to face the axe .
It’s understandable what these people are going through, still experts feel it’s not yet time to panic. Don’t take it as the end of the world, its just a phase and times will change, they say. Also, look at your next job as a package-profile and the scope of learning and not only the money. Spend some quality time with your family, take some time off to relax and you will see how life changes with positive thinking.
